Choke Canyon Camping
Just thought I'd mention, If anyone is intersted in Camping at Choke Canyon State Park, they have an awsome park. Lots of Wildlife, Very clean camp sites, with bathrooms/showers. Tent sites with Electric outlets and covered tables. I'll post some prices if anyone is interested. I may even have a few pictures, I'll look.

We've camped at the Calliham Unit on three occasions...and you're absolutely right, this is a great park for wildlife viewing. The deer regularly walked through the campsites in our loop. Plenty of turkeys and javalina too. Never saw any alligators though.
This was one of our favorite camping destinations when we lived in South Texas. It's too bad they had to close the pool.

We, too, have camped at the Calliham Unit... in our case, tent camping. Had an awesome time every visit and took lots of wildlife and bird photos!

Re: Choke Canyon Camping
I seen the pool was closed last time I was there, I wonder if they have any plans on getting it opened back up. They have the water fixed and back on, last time I was there camping in early Nov. they said there was about a 2 week waiting list on weekend camping spots.

That time of year...could be Winter Texans on their way to the Rio Grande Valley. Lake Corpus Christi SP is another stop-off for many of them.
As for the pool, my understanding is that it was closed due to lack of funds. We enjoyed the pool very much on our first two trips, so I hope I'm wrong about that.

Re: Choke Canyon Camping
We just returned from a 2+week RVing trip. The last place we stopped was Choke Canyon. I have a writeup with pictures on my blog. This was such a surprise to find in the flat brush country.
Another fine place we discovered was Coleto Creek Reservoir. I do not know which one I like best, so we will go back to both of them.
