Canyon Lake info

Howdy!

Long time viewer but this is the first time I needed a few questions answered...

My wife and I are beach campers that love Padre Island National Seashore. We have yet to make a trip there this year due to the weather and weed. Needing to get out, we have decided to hit Canyon Lake this coming weekend. I have googled Canyon Lake and I am not finding a whole lot of info on it.

What we are trying to do or hoping to do is park our 4x4 close to the water and throw up a tent and EZ-Up canopy. At the same time I am hoping to be able to kayak out one or two catfish lines (we will have a kayak so I figured I would kayak out some baits). Being able to build a small campfire would be a bonus. So basically we are not after anything major...a tent close to the water and safety.

We are military and I know about the Ft. Sam and Randolph areas but their websites are lacking a few things like info. I called them but they didn't really have the time to talk. So, does anyone have any good links to Canyon Lake that would help me find what I am looking for? Anyone know if you can put a tent on the water line at the Ft.Sam/Randolph areas? Anyone have a suggestion on somewhere else I should try? Any information at all would be helpful.

Thank you very much for your time. Thanks for any help!!!

Thanks for the info bro. I checked all the links/parks and have a few ideas. I just thought it would be easier to find info on a spot on that lake that is safe while being able to camp close to the water line. Also didn't see any decent pictures of these parks. Can't say I saw any recent fishing reports from that lake. Everything I was able to find was pretty much outdated. I did see a website owned by a bait shop close to C.L. that has a couple of catfish ponds lol.

The search continues

Anyone have any more info I would be greatful!
