Campsites at Guadalupe SP?

We are getting ready to take our three pre-school age children on their first camping trip - to Guadalupe State Park for a few days in May. Can anyone recommend some tent sites to avoid / preferred sites, and why? Thank you!

Re: Campsites at Guadalupe SP?

Justin and I just got back from Guadalupe River State Park about two weeks ago; we camped for one night camping with our now 13-month-old daughter. We stayed in site #34 which is my favorite site in the park due to its proximity to a hiking trail with bluffs that overlook the Guadalupe River/valley below and with a lot of buffer woods between you and the next campsite. Since your kids are a little older, you might prefer site #26 which has a playground nearby and isn't such a long walk to the restrooms. You can print the park map out online--it's the same one you'll receive upon entry to the park.

I haven't had time to post a formal trip report yet, but you can read about our trip here -> Camping w/a 1 Year Old

Re: Campsites at Guadalupe SP?

We've only camped there once and got #26. Being right next to the playground has it's advantages. When you need to have the kids occupied while you clean up dinner or pack the truck, they aren't underfoot. It's a large site, on the end, and quite private.

Re: Campsites at Guadalupe SP?

My son and I went to GRSP back in February and stayed at spot #24. It is a great spot, pretty secluded, great trees, and pretty close to the playground and restrooms.
We really enjoyed our visit, hopefully the Rangers will be doing and interpretative presentaion on Sat nite for the campers. Highly recommend if you can attend.
Have fun!

We have stayed at GSRP at #20-29-79-47-63 and have enjoyed them all,the only problems my kids had during our times there where the rocks going into the river .They are loose and move under your feet, they have learn to slow down and watch what they are doing.Hope you have a good time.

Re: Campsites at Guadalupe SP?

I have kinda jumped the gun, but I just booked Guadalupe River SP for 7 nights from March 8-16, 2009. Hope there's enough to do to spend the whole Spring Beak there cuz that's the plan. :P

Re: Campsites at Guadalupe SP?

Most of our trips have been with DD's girl scouts, plenty to do then.We only stay 3-5 days just right,I'm pooped by then. You can do the Honey Creek tour and good trails and biking to river. You can go to Canyon lake and check out some of the coe parks ,I love Potter's Creek great camping, swimming, and fishing. There is plenty of spots to go tubing in near by towns.7 days might be a little long ,but It's beautiful there.Might still be to chily to get in water.
