Camping at Ren. Festival -- Plantersville

Now that I have a Pop-up I am thinking of spending the night there to see what it's like. Even though I live in Magnolia, only about 40 min. away. I see on their website that they have no hook-ups & it's first come first served.

Anyone else ever camp there? I need to know -- is it better to go on Friday night for Sat., or Sat. night for Sunday?? And is it a 'free for all party' or would I be comfortable bringing my 9-YO son?

My x brother in-law is King Ferdinand at the festival. The stories he used to tell me make it sound pretty wild. Heck I wanted to go when I heard them
Not sure if it is fair to say it is still the same????

That festival is very fun. Plenty to entertain the entire family. I went in 9th grade with my boyfriend. Awwwwwwwwwwww. 1982 I think. The Houston news crews were there the day we went. We saw ourselves on the news that night, pretty cool for a kid.

Now I am looking at that date, wow, I'm old.

When I lived in Killeen I went there once with a tent. It was a huge party after hours. Adult content (if you know what I mean)!!!! Being single and having a Irish accent I never had a lonely moment...

Have never camped there but know some who have. There's some partying that goes on no doubt but I would think you could find a place fairly quiet. It is much like primitive camping though. Bring your own water and battery operated fan (Nov can still be hot) and don't forget bug off stuff, just in case. I'm not sure if they allow groundfires. Lots of pinestraw around. As far as the festival itself goes, it has become more and more family oriented. I remember the first time I went (prob '85) there were people pulling passed out people around in wagons. They don't let you bring in ice chests anymore. Lots of games and "rides" for kids (at an extra cost usually @ $3). There are some areas that are basically a beer party in the woods but you'll know the area when you get close. All in all I would recommend Ren Fest for a good time for all. Make sure you take in as many shows as you can and fireworks at the close of the evening are awesome. If you can, go in costume. It really adds to the adventure!

Those were the days Didn't have to spend $7 bucks for a beer. Could bring food and drinks for the kids. Funny how drinking is still encouraged, but now with a hefty profit in place

I started going in the early 80's when it was much less commercial. As it became incresingly commercial I went less and less and have not been now in 15 years.

Bring back the wagons
