Camping Question

Any suggestions for places to go camping? My friends and I went to Colorado Bend state park a couple weeks ago and hiked 1.5 miles to the camp site, I am looking for something similar in the hill country. I am looking into Lost Maples and Hill Country state parks. We enjoyed camping in the wilderness except for the fact that we weren't expecting a hike and brought way too much stuff.

Re: Camping Question

Take a look here. I am not sure what level of camping you are expecting. Enchanted Rock is wonderful for hiking.

Caprock Canyons and Mineral Wells both have a trailway (reclaimed railroad right of way).

The park road between Bastrop and Buescher State Parks is awesome.

Re: Camping Question

Pick up a State Park book, draw a big circle around your home town, and try everything within 2 hours from there. I bet you'll find something great about every park you visit.

I've never primitive camped at a state park but, from what I've seen, you could try
Lost Maples
Hill Country
Enchanted
Perdernales

Most require a hike to the site. If you like your stuff, try a water only site, then you could camp just about anywhere with nice hiking opportunities. There are loads of trails at Garner. Seminole Canyon is isolated, you might like it there.
