Camping in Oct. with little kids

We have a 2 and 5 year old and are thinking of taking our first camping trip with them in October. Looking for ideas on where to go. Really looking for a place to car camp (car right by us) or sheltered camping.

Thanks.

Where do you live & how far would you like to go? That would limit it a lot!

I've heard great things about the Yogi campsites, BUT.... there's only one in Texas & it's in Waller (close to HOuston). I haven't been yet but have reservations for July 21 weekend for their 'Christmas in July' celebration.

Where do you live & how far do you want to drive? Texas is a BIG state, y'know!! <grin>

I've heard good things about the Jellystone parks; however the only one in Texas is in Waller near Houston. Very kid-oriented, but I haven't been yet. I have reservations for their "Christmas in July" weekend coming up though.

Where in Texas do you live? When our kids were about that age, we always took them to Goliad State Park. They have tent camping as well as screened shelters (we stayed in the screened shelters). It is a clean, quiet and very pretty park and is well suited for families with young children. There is a neat hiking trail that is perfect for families with small children.

Re: Camping in Oct. with little kids

My son (he's 10) and I went to Brazos Bend over Spring Break and both of us really enjoyed it. October should be cool enough that you could tent camp. I would steer away from BB in the heat of the summer if you don't have a camper or pop-up as there is no place to cool off by getting wet.

Currently, I'm thinking about trying to go to Lake Livingston in October. I'm trying to talk the wife and daughter into joining us for a weekend. They both love horses so I'm trying to convince them with trail riding at LL.

Re: Camping in Oct. with little kids

My son & my first camping trip was to LL. The horse ride is OK, but not the best I've ever been on. The price is right though -- $20 per for over an hour!

The park is nice and there are plenty of places to bike ride. When I went (March) the lake was down 5' because of a crack in the dam from Rita. Don't know if that's changed or not.
