Question Camping near Gruene?

We (DH and 1 couple) are planning a road trip from Houston, TX to Gruene, then to Austin. We plan to stop in Gruene for 1-2 nights but would like to camp if possible. We are not picky on hook ups or primitive, we just want a place to rest our heads for a bit and then explore "nature". Basically we are okay with "roughing" it out, but will need a public shower to rinse off at. Any suggestions? I want to book it now or atleast get on the waiting list.

Thanks!

Thank you! I'll look into it. I was reading the Rules and it states: No Personal/Private Equipment allowed in camp and will not be shuttled. What exactly does that mean? Sorry if this is a stupid question...

Not sure but I'll bet it is referring to canoes and kayaks to be used on the area rivers. Alot of that goes on in that area.

Happy Camping!

Re: Camping near Gruene?

I'm sure they are talking about tubes and kayaks. They want you to rent theirs. And keep in mind the water temp doesn't fluctuate too much. Brace yourself for that first dive! The best way is to just jump in! You'll be numb soon enough! As long as the sun is out, you won't freeze!

Agaras,

Look up - Krause Springs.... privately owned land with beautiful swimming area usually overlooked so it's never jam packed.

Look up - Hamilton Pool Preserve.. Same with this place. It's just beatiful and never too packed.

Another place nice is : Jacob's Well in Wimberley.

Place are close to the areas you are headed.

Re: Camping near Gruene?

Hamilton Pool is day use only. Beautiful spot! Go early to beat the crowd. Be sure to go to Pedernales end of trail, too. Nice hike.
