Camping near enchanted rock
I'm looking for camping near Enchanted Rock being that ER's regular sites are full the weekend were looking at. We don't want the primitive ER sites because I hear you cannot have fires out there. Does anyone know of any places near the park that offer camping, it can be primitive as long as we can make fire.

Re: Camping near enchanted rock
You might want to see if there is a fire ban for Gilliespie county. With the dry conditions, many countys are still implementing the ban on any fires.
The only camping close to ER is going to be in Fredericksburg. And, I believe most are like RV places. Good Luck.

Re: Camping near enchanted rock
Welcome aboard and I hope we can help. Eileen suggested three great parks and I find it hard to pick the best of the three. If my "arm were twisted" for a vote, guess I'd have to vote for Inks Lake. Really enjoy that park and will be there again next month. Also intending at least one "day trip" to ER.
Also, IIRC, the "fire ban" is state wide and decreed by Gov. Perry. I could be wrong but that was the last I heard and I don't believe it's been lifted. It's one of the factors that has slowed down our camping over the last 3-4 months. I have an easy sorce for this type of info at work. If I remember, I'll check and get back.
None the less, hope you have a great trip and again, welcome to Wild Texas! Happy Camping!

Thanks for all the help. We have booked a site at Inks Lake SP. We've never been but it sounds like a nice park. I love this website! Who knew getting info could be this easy.
Thanks-

Hehe, glad our many Wild Texas regulars could assist you in locating a camping locale. You'll enjoy Inks Lake -- it's a gorgeous and quite unique park, with much to see and do. Enjoy!

Re: Camping near enchanted rock
I'm sure you'll have a great time at Inks Lake SP. I checked and could not find a reference to a state-wide "Burn Ban" but I did find the following for Burnet County:
Burnet County Burn Ban
Save you from hauling a bunch of firewood you can't use . Site also should give you more info about Burnet County. Also, if you have some time you might want to read my ramblings about Inks Lake. At the bottom of the review you'll find a link to pictures I took of the park. Might help a bit.
Inks Lake State Park
If your at the park on the weekend, be sure to try a sandwich from Mike's Texas BBQ. Well worth the cost .
Hope this helps and you have a great trip. Happy Camping!
