Camping Equipment Collection

Hello fellow Texans! This was just on my mind so I wanted to share to see if it was a good idea or not. I've been going to garage sales lately in search for misc. camping equipment to build an endless collection. I never search for anything in particular but for example if I were at a garage sale and they were selling a tent, I'd most likely purchase it - especially if it was a good bargain. I think now I'm going to stray into flea markets and other areas - does anyone have any places they frequent for camp gear? I'd like to build this collection so that I can always have something to bring camping - if it doesn't work, odds are I'll have another.

Also eventually I can begin bartering with others that need equipment and can't afford the more pricey items.

Any ideas?

Re: Camping Equipment Collection

No ideas off hand but garage sales and flea markets are always a good place to get things you want and/or need. Just watch what your buying and make sure it is something you'll use and is in servicable condition. It is pretty easy to collect a lot of "stuff" that you tote around and don't use. Even with our big "5th" and the truck to pull it, we think 3-4 times before adding any new camping gizmo. When we do, we usually remove something else. Keeps the trailer light, fuel costs down and gives me less I have to fool with.

Also, the idea of bartering with your "extras" is always a great idea. Hope you can make that work.

Just my ! Good luck and,

Happy Camping!

Try auctions at storage units. People always have stuff like that packed away. When they stop paying for their unit, it gets sold. From what I heard, most places require you to purchase the entire unit full of stuff and have to remove it by the end of the day. The person I heard it from said he buys tools and sporting equipment to sell at the swap meet. Stuff like that doesn't loose much value once it's been used. As long as it isn't broken, it works.

Our daughter and a friend have done this a few times and come out pretty good. You get some junk but most it will be saleable.

Happy Camping!
