I'm trying to snag a few moments and get some SAMPLE things set up for you guys and gals to look over and see if they suit your needs.

I took liberties with the name of the camping club -- I thought it might be best if it was somewhat unique otherwise all events on our standard Wild Texas Calendar might get confused as organized events from forum members here.

So, is there any pain over calling the club the Wild Texans Camping Club? Very easy to change, it's just no one else has chimed in yet.

• CLUB DISCUSSION FORUM:
  SAMPLE DISCUSSION FORUM for the Camping Club; it's empty right now but would allow anyone to post messages, file attachments, images, links to related websites, etc. I presently have the forum listed under the "General Interest" section of our forums, but if you have suggestions on a better location (Under the existing "Camping" forum, for example, that's fine by me. I went with putting it in general for higher visibility.)
  
  
• CLUB CALENDAR:
  SAMPLE CALENDAR for the Camping Club; it's empty right now of course, but anyone could post events; eg. Join Us @ Inks Lake for picnicking, fishing and camping the weekend of Aug. X to Aug Y. RSVP to ...whomever... It could have a slightly different look/template if desired.
  
  For comparison purposes, you can see what a populated calendar looks like by viewing our main Wild Texas Events & Holidays Calendar, which has all sorts of events loaded into it.
  
  Events in all of our calendars are set to be moderated right now. I am leery of leaving things open for public posting as we do have random folks who fly through and abuse certain posting privileges. If you guys had one or two people you'd be willing to act in your stead, I could make them moderators and they'd have the power to approve new events postings in the calendar, etc. ANYONE could post an event, it just wouldn't show up until I or a moderator had approved it for display on the site. For now, I am the only designated moderator. Any volunteers? I can write you up a tutorial... it's not too confusin'
  
  
• CLUB PHOTO GALLERY:
  SAMPLE PHOTO SHARING SECTION for Wild Texans Camping Club; again, this is empty right now. Anyone can post to it but it needs a moderator in addition to myself, and I am open to suggestions on where it should be listed amid our pre-existing Wild Texas Photo galleries.

Bear in mind that all of these things are based on templates and I could, given some guidance from you guys, strip all the Wild Texas specific stuff off (for the most part, except for the URL and a few copyright things) and make these into sort of their own sub-site. That would take some coordination and guidance on your parts, but is absolutely doable. Just talk it over amongst yourselves and let me know.

In the meantime, everything I just linked should be accessible. If it isn't, let me know; I did it quickly and may have set some permissions too low to allow public posting/entries.

PS: Might want to do some searching to ensure no one else is going by the name "Wild Texans Camping Club" before anyone gets too attached to the name. Same for "Wild Texas Camping Club" for that matter, as it's not something I have trademarked (though I should have a long time ago.)

I agree also, open to all campers.

The actual camping website- maybe closed to just members of the camping club for security??? If one happens to google and get our camping plans off the web, it could cause a problem. I'm flexible either way though. What ever the majority wants.

Shannon, just to clarify for my own good, you mean logo as in the picture of the blue state with yellow "wild" and white "Texas"? or is there something else. I would hate for my ignorance to make an opps.

Yep, I am referring to our Wild Texas logo with the blue Texas. For one thing, I really need to get a new logo designed for WildTexas.com, and the other issue with that logo is I do not have a high resolution copy of it suitable for printing on things like T-shirts and the like. So it would be best if the club could come up with its own logo, if it indeed seeks a logo.

I 2nd that, thanks abunch Shannon, I do appreciate your time and skill's.

nicholsinic4- the a/c is a window unit from walmart 5250 btu(84.00),built a stand to put it thru one door(front 1/2 in the tent,exhaust side outside), zip the zippers as far as you can, then yellow duct tape(yellow tent) over the gaps. This weekend at Spring Branch it was cool enough to sit inside and be comfortable in the day and at night it got down right cold. Working on a stand with a "grommet" of sorts to sit the a/c and seal it, no duct tape, kind of de redneck it if you will:rolleyes:

We are interested in joining the camping club as well. There are 6 of us but our oldest son is too old to go camping with his parents plus he works (YEA!) and goes to school. We also have 3 12 yr olds (2 boys and 1 girl).

Thanks for getting back to me. Hey, when you get it down "just right" post a picture with directions. I'd love to see it! I was just looking at that one at Wal-Mart to boost the home AC in the living room. Man, this hot weather has been hard. I have a 2 story house and my central air just can't cool it all. That little window unit would be a good investment for home and camping.

I'm not in charge of the club, just offering up web space for the forums/photo gallery/calendar. I'm afraid my time is pulled in so many directions I have no time for camping, much less hosting camping meet-ups. That said, I want to do everything I can to facilitate the club's growth in helping folks get together and enjoy the Texas outdoors. Whatever I can do to help through WildTexas.com, let me know!! :ribbit:

Sweet! I hope you're enjoying yours as much as we're enjoying ours. We have about 4,500 miles on it; we purchased ours in early March of this year.
