Blanco State Park

I am taking my kiddos (10,6 and 2 ½ ) camping @ Blanco State Park. Anyone ever been? What type of activities can the kids do other than swim/play in the river. I understand that there are dinosaur tracks in the area however the property where the tracks are is private land. We have never been to this park so any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Blanco State Park

Welcome aboard. I had also heard there are tracks on private land upstream from the park. While your there, maye day trip up to Johnson City. LBJ National and State park ( there's a pool at the state park, real cheap to swim for the day), and you've got to check out Perdernales Falls SP. North on 281. Just before getting to the junction for LBJ, there's an exxon on the right, follow the road 9 miles to the park. You can hike and swim there. We've always seen armadillos there, even in the daytime. There's also a bird blind to watch the birds without disturbing them. It's one of our top 5 favorite parks.

Re: Blanco State Park

Hi there, just found this forum

My husband and I would like to go camping this weekend and saw this thread Blanco SP.

I looked at the map and it seems to be really close to Hwy 281. Maybe it's not, but I was wondering can you hear the highway from the park?

Re: Blanco State Park

It is right on Hwy 281 and situated for the most part below the highway, down at river level. Yes, from places in the park you definitely hear and see the highway, but if you are near the water spillway and such the sounds you are more likely to hear are kids laughing and ducks quacking.

I have never camped there but have been there on short daytrips, including a couple to do some birding (unaffected by proximity to highway due to plenty of tree cover and the ample presence of water.)

Hello and welcome aboard. The park actually extends under 281 that passes over it and the Blanco river. Have never found the highway to be any type of distraction but some may.

Happy Camping!

Re: Blanco State Park

My family and I went to Blanco last month, we stayed one night and then packed up and moved to Pedernales Falls State Park the next day. It is nice right in the middle of town, but with 3 children there was not much to do there in Blanco. On the other hand we LOVES Pedernales and will go back soon.

And with this Texas drought the river is way down and not even flowing over the spillway.

HAPPY CAMPING

Hey Yall,

My parents and I are planning to go th BSP this month. We have never been before. What all can you do? We normally go to Garner and went to Pedernales Falls State Park one time which i really didnt care for but garner had always been our family favorite.

Re: Blanco State Park

Welcome aboard, Kim. Hope we can help.

There is not a huge amount to do around Blanco SP. It is located in a quiet town and except for the river, there is little else in the way of attractions. The park is nice and if your looking for a quiet place for a vacation with some swimming, fishing and small boating, Blanco should fit well. If you'll check a bit further up on this thread, you will find a link in another post that I wrote. That link will take you to a review of Blanco SP that I wrote about 18 months ago. Haven't returned to that park since but the info contained should still be valid. Picture link in the review will no longer work work as I am using another service.

Hope this all helps and you have a great trip. Again, welcome aboard and,

Happy Camping!
