Best 'beach' sites

I have a pop-up camper & like water/elec. What is the best beach site in Texas to go to? I was just at Galveston & it is NASTY!! Too much seaweed & dead-fish smell for me. Also the sand is YUCK! Why can't we have beaches/water like Florida. Ahhhh, now THERE'S a beach!

Re: Best 'beach' sites

You have to lower your expectations. I have been working on Galveston and have spent about 21 days or so of and on.
Put the trailer in the State Park and have really enjoyed it. Fires at the site, shrimp and steak on the grill, walking on the beach with my Bubba Keg full of beer,,,,,,,wait a minute? Maybe that's why I enjoyed it

Re: Best 'beach' sites

Because of the curvature of the TX coast and the prevailing currents, we get a lot of garbage both natural (seaweed) and man-made on the upper coastline. The big ocean-going tankers dump their trash at-will. This is not to say that other parts of the coast don't get trash. But it seems the farther south you go the better the situation gets.

I know at South Padre Island the early morning dozers grade the beaches clean in front of the touristy hotels. I don't know about the open beaches directly north of there.
