Awesome SB trip!

DS & I just spent the last week in Ft. Davis in West Texas! We stayed at the Prude Guest Ranch, where they have RV hookups (we have a pop up). They also have an indoor heated (?!) pool which son gleefully played in a couple of times.

We got there Sat. night after 12 hours on the road (& stops, food, gas, etc.). Sunday we just lazed around & took a short trip into Ft. Davis to see a few touristy shops. Monday the winds came. Until Tuesday night I thought we were gonna blow away!! Wind speeds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45. Luckily we survived intact. It got COLD also -- temps down into the upper 20's at night & it was even (briefly) SNOWING Tuesday morning when we awoke. The days warmed up nicely though & by Thursday it was back up into the 70's during the day.

We managed to visit Alpine, see the Marfa lights one night, Mcdonald Observatory and the star parties, Pecos, the Fort at Ft. Davis, go down to Terlingua Ghost Town, and visit Monahans Sandhill SP TWICE! DS gave this two thumbs up! If you've never been there -- it's the only public access to over 200 miles of sand dunes that stretch across Texas & NM. There are gigantic sand dunes (50' high or more) and the store there rents out snow saucers to slide down the dunes on. They even give you board wax so you can go faster!! Be forewarned -- you WILL come back with sand in every concievable pocket, fold and piece of skin you have!!

WE packed up & left Sat. to come back in 2 days & stopped by the family's place in Marble Falls for Easter Dinner. All in all, we had a wonderful Spring Break!

Re: Awesome SB trip!

There were a lot of people at Monahans the 2nd day we went but it's so big I don't think it would ever be 'crowded'. There might be no picnic tables available though..... DS (& all the other kids!) were REALLY having fun. I'd recommend it to anyone with kids!

Re: Awesome SB trip!

Our Boy Scout Troop stopped there on the way to summer camp and from what I heard they had a blast. You can read about the park at the TexasPArks web site
