Anywhere not crowded on Spring break????

Is there anywhere that won't be too crowded on Spring Break??

I want to take my 3 year old camping for his first time, but I am not sure where to go that won't be packed with people.

I am looking at McKinney Falls, Blanco, Mother Neff, Perdenales, and Martin Creek Lake, but any other suggestions are welcome. We live in Houston and want somewhere that has fishing (hopefully river) and quiet. I am more than willing to try a "lesser known" park to get away from the crowds!!!

Thanks for your help!

Do a Google of Stubblefield Lake just a hour north of Houston. It can't get too crowded because it only has 30 campsites.

Enjoy

What about Cagle Recreation area on Lake Conroe? I haven't camped there but it seems pretty peaceful.

Maybe look at Colorado Bend SP. It's a bit primitave for the "average spring break camper" since it's far from civilization. There is good camping and trails and should be quite.

Re: Anywhere not crowded on Spring break????

Actually usually CBSP fills up during Spring Break due to the White Bass run. This year with the boat ramp being closed and the river being so low there might have been some cancellations so you could take your chances...
Last I heard they weren't pulling any fish out either so not sure how much fun that will be for a 3 year old.

Both Pametto SP and Kerrville-Schreiner Park's were quite when we went there (not during Spring Break though), they're smaller parks that don't seem to get as crowded and my then 6 year old caught enough fish at both places to keep her happy. Plus she loved the ducks at Palmetto!

Good Luck!!!!!!!
Let us know where you decided to go and how it was, we're always looking for the 'lesser known' parks that might have a little more privacy.

Re: Anywhere not crowded on Spring break????

The problem is multi-fold. First, ReserveAmerica has been non-functional for what feels like forever. Second, the phone reservation center's system was down all weekend and a few days before. Third, the weather is turning out fantastic for this Spring Break in terms of camping. So naturally, there's a run on campsites and with the system having been down, the apparent low supply created a ton of demand. So the choices are few.

We managed to get a site for three nights at Buescher...the last site, actually. Sure, it'll be crowded, but we're planning on searching for a geocache that should get us far enough off-trail to enjoy some silence. And they have a group campfire and stories and stuff in the evenings for the kids, which my 6 year old will love.

Good luck with your search! I always discovered that the Lake Travis parks were pretty quiet regardless of time of year, especially Arkansas Bend and Turkey Bend on the North Shore.
