Any Family Camping Groups in Central Texas?

    Hello -

I am a camper from my childhood and my family (DH, two DS 9 & 3) have just bought our first travel trailer! We have been tent camping, but in Central Texas that can get hot.

Anyway, we are looking for other families with children that like to camp in the Central Texas area (or anywhere). I know that North Texas has a family camping group that camps together if they can. It is an open invitation - if you go camping you let everyone know and if they can make it they will let you know.

Most of our friends with kids aren't campers (hotel/motel camping at best). Are we a dying breed?

    Thanks,
    Lisa - 44
    DH - 39
    DS - 9
    DS - 3

Congrats on the TT!! It is MUCH better than sleeping on the ground! Whereabouts are you located exactly? I'm in Magnolia -- north of Houston kinda.

I had a pop up but just sold it & put down a deposit on a hybrid. All the places we go to camp are in the cen-tex region. Inks & Garner are the places we go to most. don't know of a camping group in your area but search on Google & you might find one.

Welcome, what kind of trailer did You get? Getting off the ground is so good !

This is not a group but may be a way to get out and enjoy the state parks,(see link below to Texas state parks family info) great way to learn camping and have fun with others, its good for old and new campers.

There are a lot of great parks in the state. Do not be afraid to ask about them.

Thank you! We are in Austin, Texas. We bought a Jayco Jayflight 27' Bunkhouse. We took it to Lake Travis this weekend for a trial run and we love it. (Secretly thinking of our 5th Wheel one day!)

I have been a long time camper growing up here in Austin. I have been to most of the State Parks in Central Texas and elsewhere, but as a kid.

Thank you for the website and if anyone is camping nearby, post it! We may be able to meet up!

I am looking forward to the information on this and the other forums here at Wild Texas. Site numbers with shade seem to be a popular thing to post after you've been camping.

We stayed at a private park, La Hacienda RV park on Lake Travis (not near the water). It seems to be geared to the full-time campers. It is nice, but we didn't have long there (we had to run back to town for my son's football game).

    Thanks for your replies!

    Lisa

Howdy and welcome! We are in San Antonio and are always looking for others that love to camp. Our kiddo is 19 now and doesn't have time to go between school and work but we love kids! It's almost that time of year for us to start going. If I have my way we go at least a few times a month. If you like winter camping maybe we will see you sometime.

We also travel with two small dogs.

    Hi Lisa!!

After tent camping for a while we finally broke down and bought our TT 2years ago now and are loving it! I tell you the TT has helped extend the camping season not just during the summer months but the winter months too.

We live in Austin as well and most of our weekend trips we keep within 2ish hours from home. We camp with my DD who is also 9 and schnauzer.

I'm all for a CenTX camping group too... think there was one that got started a couple years ago but fizzled out. Let's see if we can't get it going again!
