Is 40's degree too cold for 3yrs old?

I'm going to take my 3 yrs old daughter camping and some newbies who will be their first time camping also. The weather forecast said that it will be in the 40's at night and 62 during the day. Is that going be too cold for the little ones at night? I dont to ruin it for anyone, esspecially its their first time camping.

Shouldn't be particularly as long as they don't get wet. Keep them bundled up well at night. Chances are the kiddos will turn in pretty early as camping will take the pepper out of them by the end of the day. Make sure that they are warm in bed and you should have no problems at all. A stocking cap for sleeping is not a bad idea. Still carry one, even in the trailer.

Kiddos do love camping and it will wear them out. Took my GS the first time when he was about 3 or 4 (he's 12 now). That little boy ran until he could run no more. Got him cleaned up that evening and sat down in front of the campfire. After about 15 minutes, he turned to DW and said "Grandma, I need to go to bed now!". That was the end of him.

Take them and have fun!

Happy Camping!

I would say go, if you have the right gear. If your tent camping, make sure you have a good mattress pad to insulate yourself from the ground. Also, check the ratings on the sleeping bags or take extra bedding. Try to find some hand warmers ( the ones you open the package and shake ) and put them in the sleeping bag before you hit the sack. They will keep the bag warm for a long while. Have fun !!

Re: Is 40's degree too cold for 3yrs old?

We've done some cold weather camping. There are a few things you can do to help from feeling cold while sleeping.

Get your body temp up before getting in the sleeping bag. A hot shower, light exercise, or a high energy snack should help. The bag will maintain the heat you put into it, not the other way around. FFRIO is right, Hand warmers are nice and the kids think they are fun. Getting up off the ground is important. You could be a total cheater and bring an electric blanket ( if you've got an electric site). Stay hydrated, just enough for the body to do it's thing, but not to much, cold kiddos can't help but pee the bed. You can put the next days outfit in the sleeping bag to get it warmed up. Makes getting dressed in the morning easier ( especially the undergarments!).
TurnKey is right, those kids will be tuckered out. Just past sundown is a good time to go to bed.

Have a good time.
