STS-114, Space Shuttle Discovery, returned to flight on July 26, 2005. This marked the first Space Shuttle flight since February 3, 2003, when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated during re-entry due to wing damage sustained at lift-off.

Discovery's return to flight was a historic one, including three spacewalks (EVA's -- Extra-Vehicular Activity), one of which involved the first ever use of the International Space Station's arm to position an astronaut *beneath* the Space Shuttle orbiter. This was done to repair tile damage sustained during ascent.
