Spring Bird Festival

Where? Presidio, Texas - Big Bend Ranch State Park


A walk along a dry arroyo in well-developed desert scrub will reveal Say's phoebe, verdin, curve-billed and Crissal thrashers along with a host of other birds. Take the opportunity to explore Chihuahuan Desert bird habitants including grasslands, desert scrub, canyons and riparian woodlands and thickets. Seek Bell's vireo, zone-tailed hawks, vermilion flycatcher and elf owls. 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; fees include meals, lodging, guide and transportation $244 Texas State Parks Pass members, $250 non-members; reservations required, deadline March 14, 2008 (432) 229-3416.

Wildflowers of the Texas Hill Country (Reservations Due)

Where? Spring Branch, Texas - Guadalupe River State Park


Join Park Interpreter Craig Hensley for this half-day workshop on the identification and natural history of the wildflowers that grow so profusely in the Texas Hill Country. Attendees will learn identification tips and tricks as well as where to find them and which ones are good for use in home naturescapes. This special workshop will include both an indoor section and a walk along the trails of Honey Creek SNA in search of flowering plants. Appropriate for ages 16 and up; class size limited to 20 participants. 1-4 p.m.; fee $10; reservations required, deadline April 11, 2008, (830) 438-7653. (830) 438-2656.

Fort Richardson Days

Stories in the Stars

Where? Spring Branch, Texas - Guadalupe River State Park


Take an engaging, interactive look at stars, galaxies, star clusters and more as we tour the night sky. Audience will participate in a fun-filled skit telling the famous story of Cassiopeia and Andromeda. Following this we'll take a tour of the night sky and check out a few of the seasonal astronomical wonders through a telescope. 8-10 p.m. (830) 438-2656.
