Question trying to ID mammal in Wimberley

we have a family of animals living under our deck in Wimberley - black & squirrel-like, but bigger all over, and no tail. greyish markings on the back, but black otherwise. any ideas? we are very curious. thanks!

I couldn't hazard a guess at this point. Any chance of a photo? You've definately got me curious as well!

i will snap one next chance i get. it really looks like a fat, black squirrel without a tail. can't seem to nail it over the internet, appreciate your help!

Nutrias have long thin tails and resemble a beaver. Certainly has me puzzled?

it must've been a big fat black squirrel w/his tail cut off b/c I've seen one since with a long squirrel's tail
