Red Shouldered Hawks

We ran a few errands this morning. Upon pulling into the drive way, I heard screeching. Son and I walked down the drive and looked up to see 3 Red Shouldered Hawks, flying and gliding around above our street. I've not seen them or heard them here before. There are high power lines and a large easement behind our house which workers have been clearing out lately. I wonder if that has upset these birds and disturbed their food source's habitat ( mice).

I went over to the neighbors house ( they are outdoor folks/hunters) and asked if they had noticed anything. They said they've been here since yesterday. Maybe they've even enjoyed water from their bird bath. Their dogs were going nuts this morning and they had no idea why.

Its a pleasant surprise to see them still in town. I guess the airplanes are taking a different route this week, and I just hadn't noticed the quietness. Sure is neat to see and hear them, if you close your eyes, you can pretend you are standing on a scenic overlook at South Llano or Perdernales. Ok son, just pretend, get out of the street, a car is coming. Back to reality.
