Need help with identification

There is a bird up the road from my house that I haven't seen around here before. I think it may be a kestrel or something like it. It sits on the power lines and hunts the pastures there.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a good web site to help with the identification. Several years ago I stumbled across an excellent one that helped me on several occasions, but can't seem to find another one like it.

And there's always the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's All About Birds - Online Bird Guide!

Re: Need help with identification

Thank you. Those sites were helpful, but I finally stumbled across one like I was thinking about. It has about a dozen different options like size, shapes, locations and what-not that you can enter about the bird you are looking for and every field you enter narrows down their list. As the list gets shorter you can start looking at the pictures.

It is at Birds of North America - Whatbird.com and strangely enough is part of a commercial site for feeders and such. I have never seen two sites like this combined, but when you think about it, it does kinda make sense.

By the way, my bird is a female American Kestrel.
