I am sure you folks down south have seen them long ago, but I have my first sighting in Palo Pinto county. Had two arguing over feeding rights a few hours after I hung up the feeders for the spring. Nice to have the little ones back

Dang:rolleyes:! I'd put my feeder out but we will gone for 8 days the first part of April. Don't like to get them started and then shut them down the minute they start using it. Will put mine up as soon as we return, as usual. Until then, you enjoy them for the both of us:cool:  !
Happy Camping!

We had our 1st little hummingbird Sunday here in Round Rock.
I have 2 feeders up on the porch cover, they love them.

My aunt told me a recipe that is doing great for the hummers.
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn sryup
2 cups water
heat or mix up
then add any flavor of snow cone juice(I use 2 tbls of blue)
put in one gallon container and fill the rest up with water.
They have been going to snow cone feeders more then the store bought juice. Good watching

That mix should do well. I've mostly use a 1 to 4 mix of sugar and water for a long time with good success. I double the sugar for the first batch of the year. Seems to act as a "primer" and gets them coming on a regular basis. I then back it down to 1 to 4 for the rest of the year. This seems to get them to come more often through the day. Get a kick out of watching them buzz around trying to see who's going to get in first.
Happy Camping!

Well, we got back last Friday afternoon. Didn't have time until this morning (Monday) to get my feeder out. Didn't take 12 hours for the little "buzz bombs" to find it and start fussing over it. Saw 2 "squaring off" just a few minutes ago. They'll settle down over the next couple of days and after that, I'll probably find the same 3-4 at it every morning and evening. Lots of fun to watch and something I look forward to every year.
Happy Camping!

Had to put up regular feeders so the redbirds would leave the hummers alone,(Can't they all just get along.)

Read this thread and thought "What the heck." I already had a seed feeder and a suet feeder I hadn't used in a while. Loaded up #2 kiddo telling her "We have a project" and off to Home Depot we went. Bird seed, suet feed, and a hummingbird feeder and back home we came. All three are going now. Wonder which one will get hit first?

Wow! We put the hummingbird feeder out last night at almost dark. The little guys are already hitting it this morning. Way cool. BTW, we haven't had one before, and we don't have flowers or anything, so I have no clue what brought them to it, but it sure is cool!
