We are getting excited about birds here at Camp Eagle!
We are a fairly new and growing camp located at the headwaters of the Nueces River near Kerrville on a beautiful 1400 acres, that boast the river, hills, cliffs, valleys and creek beds, lots of amenities and infrastructure, dorms with balconies that overlook the river and trees, campsites and RV sites, and much more. We operate year round serving and ministering to groups using custom programs and adventure activities. And, we have been thinking about birds a lot lately around here.
We are in an area that is frequented by the Golden Cheeked Warbler, Black-capped Viero, and all sorts of Eagles. The Eagles show up around January and fly in groups (sometimes), over the river. We watch them from one of our balconies. It sure is a sight to see. We have some swans that have made a home down the county road in a calmer part of the river. Also we have located a herring nest adjacent to a bluff face that has potential views straight into the nest. Other things we know is that Texas has more bird species than any other state in the US and that there are many other birds in our area that people love to find, see, and experience.
Like I said, we are open year round and we have a sign-in booth with directions for camping; or you can just stop by our office and we would love to show you around or give you free roam of the place. Birding is free! Their is a small fee (it really is small) for camping or RVing at our developed or primitive campsites. If you are interested in getting involved in some way, please feel free to contact me about that too. Birding is pretty new to us and we are interested in developing the place a bit more for it. We would love to hear from you what birders want and need? We are also looking to put some bird watching stations along our trails and in the backcountry. Maybe one of you out there nows something about this, and has the means to help us out.
