Question Bird feeder problem?

I just recently setup a nice custom-made cedar bird feeder a reasonable distance from the house and near a tree. On the stand is the feeder on top, small bird bath on one side and a hummingbird feeder on the other.

It only took two days for the hummingbirds to find their feeder, however the other birds have not found their feed (wild bird seed and black sunflower seeds) and it's been like 6 days or so!!!

I know the hummingbirds are quite territorial towards other hummers, but do you think having the wildbird feeder so close to the hummer feeder is the problem???

Any ideas?

Yep, that would be my bet. I feed "hummers" and the little bullies will run off anything that comes near their feeder. Tough little buggers (Don't ya' love it !).

Happy Camping!

Re: Bird feeder problem?

I usually have one hummingbird feeder near a thistle seed feeder, but I have noticed that if the hummers are feeding the other birds aren't around, and vice versa. Hummers have nearly attacked me before, flying within inches of my eyes and backing off just as quickly, so I suspect your feathered friends are a little intimidated by the pint size and speedy little bullies on the block. Some distance would probably do both the hummers and the other birds some good. I've never seen any aggressive behaviour turn dangerous, but it would certainly make the dining experience more stressful than most seed eaters would like.
