attention creek newts and crawfishers
as I mentioned over in my choke canyon thread under parks, the book is now available...What book? THE BOOK. Texas Crawdads. A complete and profusely illustrated field guide to the species of the Lone Star state. I expect butterfly and bird watchers across the state will abandon their posts and life lists in droves to pursue the newest and greatest of all naturalist pursuits, the hunt for crawdads...we all loved it as kids, haven't you ever wondered why you stopped??? Please enjoy and please let us know what you think and what you see when you hit the ditches.
details at: Texas Crawdads/Crawdad Club Designs - Home
seriously, conservation of any species begins with an awareness of that species existence and diversity, after which appreciation will surely follow, and inevitably concern for the creature and it's habitats, this book is meant to accomplish the goal of helping people to know these wonderful creatures, it has been a work long in the making, a dream of two men, and while it would be impossible to recoup the expense of its production, that was never really the goal to begin with. I hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to truly get to #now this states crawfishes.

Re: attention creek newts and crawfishers
Never really thought about there being 37 different species of mudbugs! With that in mind, I bet you could find half of them in my, our my neighbors', yard! I have never eaten any though...I'm allergic to shellfish

Re: attention creek newts and crawfishers
37+ species of crawfish in Texas alone, 500+ species of crayfish worldwide, north america has by far the most crayfish species, but if you are in southeast texas (golden triangle) you probably do have quite a variety in the yard, crayfish diversity is much like rainfall in texas, decreasing as one moves west and inland from your corner of the state, send me crawfish photos of what you find in the yard, always love to see any crawdad pics

Re: attention creek newts and crawfishers
Mostly all you can see are their mudpiles. The critters stay underground unless it is really a hard rain. I have found live ones in my inground pool a time or two. They are still alive and kicking but have been well purged. Never have paid attention to the differences in them. If I can, I'll click a pic or two for you, but don't hold your breath!
