The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is this
week, Friday, February 17 through Monday,
February 20.
During any or all of those days, we
hope you will count birds from wherever you are
and send your tallies to the Great Backyard Bird
Count web site
at http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/. As data pour in
from around the United States and Canada, you'll
be able to see how your sightings are
contributing to a continental picture showing
where the birds are.

The rules for counting for the Great Backyard
Bird Count are a little different than for
FeederWatch. For the Great Backyard Bird Count
you can report any birds you see, even those
birds flying overhead that don't count for
FeederWatch. You can also submit a separate
checklist for each locale on every day that you
count.

If you would like to include data from a
FeederWatch count day, you need to submit your
data separately to the GBBC web site in order for
your counts to appear in the GBBC maps and
tallies.

This year's Great Backyard Bird Count includes a
contest for localities with the highest number of
checklists. A panel from the Lab and Audubon will
also select the best photos submitted to the
online photo gallery. Check out last year's
photos at http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/gallery/.

To see the Top-10 lists of birds and localities
from last year, visit
http://gbbc.birdsource.org/gbbcApps/top10

You can see which birds were reported in your
area in previous years by checking out the
results section on the GBBC web site
http://gbbc.birdsource.org/gbbcApps/results.
