Upcoming Backpacking Trip: Lake Georgetown

Hey y'all,

Some people from backpacker.com are getting together a backpacking trip for the weekend of Feb. 7th. If anyone is interested go to that site and click on community; Southwest; central texas backpackers/hikers.

There may be about four of us so far. Feel free to join.

I would love to tag along on this trip if there is still room. (I don't take up much anyway!) I have been trying to meet some fellow trekkers in Texas, so this would be awesome!

Re: Upcoming Backpacking Trip: Lake Georgetown

There's plenty of room! I posted some basic directions on backpacker.com. I'll do it here as well,

if you're coming Hwy 290 from Houston exit IH35 and go north; continue until you get to Georgetown (20 minutes or so) and take the FM 2338 exit; stay to the left on the feeder and take a left at the light, over the interstate; continue straight ahead for 4 or 5 miles, it'll be on the left; look for a sign that says Cedar Breaks Park, turn left at the light next to the brand new HEB; we'll meet there in the deli at 9:00 am.

There is a guy named ChuckD on backpacker, from Houston, who has posted he would like to hook up with Houston folk for the ride.

It should be good. It's subtle hill country, not like the western portion, but nice.

Looking forward to it,
Oceanus

Re: Upcoming Backpacking Trip: Lake Georgetown

Hey Copus,

The plan for now seems to be that we're meeting at HEB on Fm 2338 in Georgetown at 9:00 am on Feb 7th. I just posted the directions in a repsonse to Lost But Found. It hasn't been discussed yet, but I think we're doing the whole trail (16.5 miles). Depending on which camp we choose, it may be primitive. There are 4 camp spots on the trail, 3 of which are primitive. However, if we do the majority of the hike the first day and camp at Tejas Camp, there is a park host there and it costs $6.00.

Hope to see you there,
Oceanus

Hey Y'all,

Tomorrow is the trip to the Goodwater Trail. I have posted a call for a head count on backpacker.com. If you plan on attending please reply, so that we don't leave anyone behind at HEB. I hope y'all can make it.

Steve

p.s. Don't forget your longjohns!
