New in Houston - Looking for Backpackers

Hi,

My husband and I recently moved to Houston and are going a bit crazy trying to find some other people to backpack and hike with. Anyone in the area want to spill the trail secrets of the area?

Thanks!
Alice

Re: New in Houston - Looking for Backpackers

There are a group of us linking up this weekend at Colorado Bend State Park to enjoy a little weekend get together. We typically use this as an oppurtunity to discuss more extended outings. You are more than welcome to join up, it is an open invitation - This extends to everyone else as well. So far, it seems that around 6-16 people are going to attend. 5 of us have been out and hiked and backpacked before.

If this is something that interests you, look for a posting at the office on the posting board. The name of our group is Simple Hikers In Texas or S.H.I.T. for short. So just look for a posting with either of those names on it and it will tell you what site we are in. Some of us are planning on showing up on Friday night and camping at a 'pull-up' site and then hitting the Gorman Creek Trail out to the primitive camp sites for Saturday night. Some of us will be doing the guided tours to the falls and caves, some fishing, and some just hanging out around camp.

If you can't make this trip, we will probably be getting out again next month. Actually, I have already heard a couple of guys talking about doing something around Thanksgiving. Although, I think they will be going out to Big Bend NP or Guadalupe Mountains NP.
