Hikes for those in Central Texas

Honey Creek SNA - Guided Walking Tour - Every Saturday in October
Explore the many natural, cultural and historical wonders of the area with members of our local friends group while surrounded by Spanish moss and cypress trees on Honey Creek that are hundreds of years old. This guided tour is your only opportunity to experience the beauty of this otherwise closed, protected area. Meet at Rust House. 9-11 a.m.; suggested donation of $2 per person, $5 per family to the Friends of Guadalupe River and Honey Creek, Inc. (830) 438-2656.

Did that a few years ago. Great tour of an area you can't get to otherwise. Would love to fish the creek but...! Can't do that.

Hears another hike posted on the Texas Parks and Wildlife site sounds interesting but could be hard

December 22, 2007 — Government Canyon SNA — Holiday Habitat Hike — Hike to the Protected Habitat area of Government Canyon with members of the volunteer Trail Patrol. Open to ages 14 and older who are physically able to hike 12 to 13 miles over broken, rocky terrain with a good portion of elevation gain and loss; group size limited; dress in layers appropriate to the weather and wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots; bring at least three liters of water per person, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, hat, and raingear. Meet at the Visitors Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. 8:15 a.m.-3 p.m.; reservations required and will be accepted beginning at noon December 10, 2007. For reservations, e-mail educcmte@hotmail.com. Include title and date of event, your name, age if under 18, e-mail address and telephone number for each reservation. Subject to cancellation. December 23, 2007 — Government Canyon SNA — Friends Group Guided Hike — Tired of bright holiday lights and crowded malls? Try experiencing a place that has more trees than people. This casual hiking experience can be a great holiday de-stressor. Open to all ages; group size limited to the first 10 people; dress appropriately and wear sturdy hiking shoes; bring water and a snack. Meet at the Visitor Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. No pets please. 9 a.m.-noon; subject to cancellation. (210) 688-9055, ext 286

We love the Honey Creek tour ,if you haven't gone on it you should,very nice area.We had to cancel out on on Government Canyon trip ,and look foward to it this spring.Great info Troop198

In case your looking for closer things near Freeport, you can get this information from the TPWD via email.A nice DAY park in Humble (well not real close) is the Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center, they occasionaly do boat rides up Spring Creek. (second lnk) Nice trails

Once again some of the State parks are offering easy hikes of Honey creek and other fun places Go take a hike (in a nice way )
