Good Water Trail Report

Just got back from Lake Georgetown. Very enjoyable trail, and a great place to stretch legs out for weekend adventures. Very accommodating backcountry sites! Fire rings, tent pads, picnic tables.

Started at Russel Park and hiked 10 miles to Sawyer CG. The first half was virtually flat, but once past Tejas CG, the trail grows hilly and interesting. Walks along ridges above lake and up and down through the cedar stands. The last 6.6 miles was the best to me (Sawyer CG to Cedar Breaks Park). Very undulating and nice ridgeline walks above lake. Trail is littered with jagged rocks, so watch those ankles and feet!

I really like this trail and absolutely plan on a return! If anyone else is ever interested, let me know.

Brett

Cool pictures man. You're not only fast on the trail, you're fast with your website too!

Thanks for the pictures, Brett. Very cool waterfalls. You could tell which pics were taken Saturday (sunny) and those taken Sunday (cloudy). Is that you with the hooded, green pullover jacket, gray pants, and blue and white trail shoes?

Re: Good Water Trail Report

Great to hear the backpacking and camping trip was a success. Looks like everyone had a good time! Any wildlife encounters -- deer, birds, armadillos, etc? You're making a computer-bound hiker jealous, here!

I second (third?) the kudos to Brett on the photos, though I have to poke a tiny bit of fun since he posted them somewhere other than our free Your Photos gallery*. I suspect Brett's as prolific a photographer as Justin and I are, however, and that he'd quickly hit the limit of the disk space I offer in our gallery!

* Someday I might offer inexpensive photo hosting with a higher disk space limit, but I haven't crossed that bridge yet. It's easier to manage everything here when it's all free/publicly available!

Anyway, keep sharing those planned and completed trips. It's great to see folks getting out and exploring. Maybe some of it will rub off on a certain geeky WildTexas.com gal!

The good news is Justin and I did get out a bit on Friday and day hike 3.6 miles on the multi-use trail at Guadalupe River State Park near our home. Had a wonderful time, and got to wear my new backpacking/hiking boots for the first time on-trail. I'm in love -- they're so much more comfortable than the heavy, clunky boots I had for the past two or three years! Of course, I need more miles on them yet to really break them in, but no ill effects from Friday's hike...

Re: Good Water Trail Report

Yeah, I had to go through the pictures last night to find my next photo to enter in the online digital photography challenge I'm in, so I figured I would go ahead and place them on my site as well.

Steve,
Did you have any problems loading the site, like it being sluggish? I am trying to fine tune it so that the dial-up users can load and view it faster. If it was very slow, please let me know. I am about to change the awful background and site composition. I have to find some time and summon the effort first!

Shannon,
Thanks for commenting on my photos. It is always nice to get merit from another photographer. And yes, I am an aspiring "time trapper" as well. My digital isn't the best for what I like to do, but it provides that instant gratification we all want. Plus, it is so much easier than scanning my film prints! (as I normally take hundreds of those!) But I really prefer the work of my Nikon F2 Photomic!!! It can be such a hassel though. I get my web space free from a friend, so it is just easier that way. Plus I can set up galleries and have fun playing around with my own site. I have posted a couple of pics from E-rock here, but I wasn't signed in though.

Yeah, Brett, it took me forever as I'm a dial-up user. But it was worth it. Do you have any pics of your WY trip in the Rockies on your site?

Re: Good Water Trail Report

Brett,
The site worked pretty well for me, especially as compared to others I've visited. We've got to do another trip some time soon. Take care.

Re: Good Water Trail Report

I am absolutely inclined to do another trip. Having someone to chat with when I get off the trail to camp is great. I hope that my hiking pace doesn't infer anything. I just enjoy the trail when I get in that zone and I just feel like I am floating and taking it all in. To me, talking can take my attention away from the trail and the surroundings.

But I had a great time and would be obliged to do another trip sometime. I have been fairly consistent so far about hiking every weekend. I am trying to get in shape for the spring trip. So pretty much anytime is good for me. Just let me know.

Keep in touch,
Brett

I had some, but have taken them off to downsize the site.
I have them burned on a cd somewhere, and haven't been able to find them. They are film pictures that were scanned in, but I can scan them again sometime. It will probably be next week. I don't have a scanner at home and work is very hectic right now. My supervisor is on vacation and I am doing his job and mine.

But as soon as I get time, I plan on putting some of my NM and WY trip pictures back in the scanner to post. I will let you know once I get them up.

As far as the site being slow, there are still a few original sized pictures on there that I need to downsize. My friend and I plan on working this out sometime this week. I want to redo the background and everything I can to make it load faster and be a little more visually appealing.
Thanks for checking it out and the feedback though.

Re: Good Water Trail Report

I didn't get any negative impressions about your hiking pace; I totally understand where you're coming from. My best hikes have been solo ones were every little sound and glimmering of rock expresses itself in all it's brilliance. Nonetheless, it is cool to meet up with someone at the end of the day and share the experience you had on the trail. We'll definitely need to do it again soon.

Re: Good Water Trail Report

Based on your pictures, that trail is a hidden jewel. I say hidden, but I don't know how well known and travelled it is. Speaking of such, did you see very many other backpackers? And it was a gorgeous day Saturday, so if there ever was a day to be outside, that was it.

There were quite a few people out there actually. A boy scout troop, and a few other overnighters. Mountain bikes are permitted on the north side of the lake, so there were a few of them, and there were quite a few day hikers on the south side of the park. But we had our camp to ourselves. I'm with you, I've never heard of it either. I think it is more of a local jewel, and hidden to the rest of Texas. But well worth a visit!

The weird thing is, I think I saw more people on Sunday than I did on Saturday. If you can believe that. But I think that most backpackers are unfamiliar with, as I have never noticed anything about it before.
