Thumbs up Good Water Trail photos

Hey ya'll,

Thought you might enjoy a few photos of a backpack trip with family and friends on the Good Water Trail around Lake Georgetown a couple of weekends ago. I did not know of this trail until a few weeks before we backpacked it. A friend suggested it to us when we were trying to decide where to go. This is a very nice trail and I would highly recommend it.

We hiked from Cedar Breaks to Tejas which is only 11 miles of the 16.5 mile total length. We camped at Sawyer camp which has really only one nice camp site. The others are spread around in the open and not on very level ground. We were lucky to be the only ones and camped under large live oaks with level tent pads and a picnic table, which I enjoyed. One in the group thought the table took away from the "wilderness experience".

Anyway, enjoy the photos if interested.

Re: Good Water Trail photos

Those are nice pics. I hiked in there from Cedar Breaks some time late last year for the first time. I stopped at the first camp area and didn't really care for it so I went on to Sawyer, and I'm glad I did. I like it there because it is not easy access. It's at least a 4 mile hike to get to so you don't get the partying kids, unless they come by boat. I did almost lose the trail a few times though. There is currently a work effort by a local Mountain Bike group that is cutting new trail around the East side of the park. It shouldn't be too much longer and the entire loop around the lake will be finished and a little more managed.

Re: Good Water Trail photos

i went there once with the boy scouts, must have been 5 years ago. it had jsut rained, and 300yd stretches of the trail had turned into giant mudholes, knee deep mud... it was awful. and all the rain brought out millions of mosquitos, it put swamps to shame. i live in austin, so i've always wanted to just stop by for a day, but that experience ruined it for me. i'll try again some day
