enchanted dog

I am just starting to explore Texas and last weekend got to camp at lost maples and Amistad. Needless to say I want more. I was thinking of going up to Enchanted Rock, but I had a question about hiking there. I like to bring my dog everywhere I go, because I have no friends. Could a dog handle climbing to the top, and is a dog even allowed. She managed to do the trails at lost maples. Just wondering.

Thumbs up Re: enchanted dog

From what I can tell from the website, pets are allowed as long as they are on a 6' leash.

As for having no friends to go with you, take advantage of the opportunity!

I went on my first solo backpacking trip back in late March to Pedernales Falls. The experience was amazing and so much different than going with a partner or a group. You really get to see what you are able to do on your own. The solitude is also a big plus, at least to me. Being in college, I don't have the chance to be alone very often.

I liked it so much that I'm going on another solo trek all the way around Lake Georgetown next weekend. So cherish and take advantage of the time you have to yourself. It is extremely rewarding.

Re: enchanted dog

It seems a hundred years ago now, but when I was in college we went to ER for a long weekend with 2 dogs in tow. It was amazing to watch those animals get around. Your pal won't have any trouble at all. Ours always found an alternate route to get to where we were heading and they usually got there before we did! It was something to see! Of course this was before the state owned ER and there wasn't a leash law.

Re: enchanted dog

Dogs are allowed, or at least this website confirms it: http://www.austinexplorer.com/Hiking....asp?HikeID=23

I've been to Enchanted Rock a couple times and it's one of my favorite places in Texas. You and your friend shouldn't have a hard time getting to the top. The difficulty is pretty much up to you, as there are some very gentle slopes to the top or you can boulder your way up if you want.

Have fun, it's a great spot.
