Re: First Ride on New Road Bike & Clipless Pedals

I've been blogging about my cycling on my personal site(s) (GeekHabitat.com & geekgal.vox.com), but just a brief update--

I found the clipless pedals, and the hard fall I took on my initial ride with them, were psyching me out of cycling. So, I had the clipless pedals removed and am now riding with a pair of cheap platform pedals (same kind you'd find on a child's bike!) I'll migrate back to clipless once I've overcome the other hurdles, namely adjusting to how much lighter and more responsive to shifts in balance a road bike is (vs. a mountain bike, which I'm used to) and--this one's a biggie, riding in a semi-non bike friendly city--riding in the bike lanes of roadways with traffic.

I also bought an indoor bike trainer so I can mount my road bike (or mountain bike, but I'd have to get "slick" tires for it) to that and put some miles on my legs without having to pack up Sara, take her to the grandparents' for babysitting, truck out to a ride start locale and bike. I'll still be riding outdoors with Justin on one day of the weekend, but this way I can get more cardio exercise, and do so without upending Sara's schedule and my own during the week.
