Earlier this week, I was driving out of the subdivision at about 8am:asleep: , when I almost had a head-on encounter with a young male deer (spike). I could see the trace of antlers beginning to poke out of his head and he was wandering back and forth across the street, acting like he was in a daze. Could he have been under the influence of the rut?:yes:
A car in front of me had stopped to get a closer look, and the deer was coming up to his vehicle. As I approached from the rear, the animal looked at me, paused and then bolted into a small wooded area.
This was only a block from I45, 30 miles SE of Houston and there isn't a whole lot of undeveloped land between the two points.
:cool: Just goes to show that nature is lurking and sometimes shows itself when you least expect it.
