Where you need to go is Goat Island. It's north of Caddo Lake State Park. Best place to put in is the Pine Needles Lodge
Pine Needle Lodge - Canoeing (canoeing.htm). I've never been but it is apparently good enough that the Dallas Downriver Club has a family campout on the island every Halloween.
