Re: that quiet quiet campground
We were tent camping at Inks Lake about 8 or so years ago. Packed full to the brim with people. We knew a cold front was due but I think we were the only ones prepared for and/or expecting it. We went to bed about 10. Around 2am you could hear the storm coming in like freight train and people were shouting "I'm leaving! Let's go!" Forget the tent, I'm outta here!" etc from all around us. We just hunkered down (the kids never even rolled over). When we woke up the next morning, there were bits and pieces of camp gear everywhere but all campers except us in a tent and a big RV with all the bells and whistles were gone. We drove around for awhile staying warm and dry in the car, debated packing up and going home but decided instead to move to a screened shelter and stay for the week. We gathered plastic, firewood, lighter fluid, a good camp chair ( all things left by those that left in a big hurry), and made ourselves at home in the shelter. That night, the forecast was for 4 -6 inches of snow. It snowed about 2 inches. The rest of the week was gorgeous weather and we had the park to ourselves because the RVers stayed inside, I guess. We never saw them.
That's the way we like it!
