Re: Caprock Canyons - Any experience?

Yes...Isn't Caprock Canyons a beautiful place? I was there for just half a day in early October of last year (way too short visit), although I also drove into the park the evening before to just look around, then went back the next morning, after spending the night in Childress. It had rained a lot there summer of last year (as it has this year also) and the place was so colorful with yellow flowers in abundance, nice greenery from the rain...combined with the blue sky and red cliffs, it was an impressive place to see. I took lots of photos. I hiked the upper canyon loop, which is about 7 miles, and has some pretty serious climbing (I believe that loop has about 750 ft of elevation change). Hoping to get back there in the next month or so. I'm south of Austin, so it's too far away for me to just go there on a whim; I'm sure if I lived within day trip distance (which I define rather liberally as anywhere within 4 hrs one way) I would go there several times a year. On the other hand, its distance from major urban areas helps to keep it uncrowded most of the time, I'm sure, which helps keep it clean and quiet. I was just thinking about the place and looking thru last year's pics when I saw this post, so had to chime in.
