We spent four days at Lake Texana during spreak break this year (March '07). Over all it was a decent/nice park though spring break was a little much for this small park.
The water only sites are rather close together, some literally on top of each other with little shading or privacy. We ended up getting two sites for that trip so that the other couple that we had with us wouldn't be right next to us and we could spread out a little.
Also, it had just finished storming when we got there and some of the sites had basically turned into swamps.
The electric sites actually looked a lot nicer and if we ever go back we will definitely consider getting on of those sites instead (and just deal with the extra noise).
The park has an 'interpretive center' and fishing with the ranger programs for the kids. The Center wasn't much but the kids seemed to enjoy some of the arts&crafts projects that they did as well as some of the demonstrations that were given.
For the kids there is also a nice playscape over in the electric sites area. This was actually one of the nices playgrounds I have seen at the parks that we've been to so far.
The streets in the park are nice and wide and no 'hidden' corners. Tons of bike riders and was safe enough to let the kids ride as well. Cars seemed to respect the bikes as the right of way.
Multiple docks for fishing. I had heard great things about the fishing here but alas, the storm had really muddied the water and we got hardly any bites the whole trip. (Caught one decent cat and a bunch of little ones but other than that, just nibbles). The two docks that I was on were well lit at night and well maintained. Being on the dock in the dark could still spook u out a little since there were at least two (little) alligators hanging around. Even with the Alligators there were plenty of bank fishing opportunities as well.
That comes to wildlife... Alligators, Snakes, Deer, more types of birds than you can count, lizards, frogs, turtles, etc... There were plenty to see an hear. The only wildlife that caused us any concern were the bees. For some reason there were so many bees around that after I got stung on my tongue (yea, I know.. don't ask!! :ribbit: LOL!) we had to run up to Walmart and buy a screened shelter just so we could actuall sit outside to eat. I'm betting that by now that problem is resolved though.
As I said, I'm not sure that we would ever do Spring break again. The bathrooms were decent when we first got there but by Saturday morning they were pretty sad and didn't get better until Sunday mid morning. Just make sure u have your own TP just in case.
Anyway, as usual I am way too verbose. I'm not sure if this helped at all but I think I have some pictures as well if you want to see them. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions too.
Wherever you go, I hope u have fun!!
