Urban Legend: Gas Boycott

After reading this going around on all the various forums I frequent, I figured I'd make a pre-emptive strike and debunk the urban legend/chain email that's going around calling for a "gas out" boycott on May 15 --

Buy a hybrid or other fuel efficient vehicle, take public transportation, bicycle, walk, carpool, etc.... THOSE things actually make a difference, because they actually affect consumption.

Boycotting buying gas for one day? Uhm... people will just gas up before or after that day. It makes no sense. It's not even like a public transit/bicycling day where everyone's encouraged to not drive (thus reducing gasoline consumption for that single day by a small amount).
