Cool W-O-W!

There are major improvements going on at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park in Mission, Texas. Expected completion date for these is sometime in 2004.

Just to name a few:
  • New nature trails and boardwalks will be added.
  • An observation tower will be added
  • Ten primitive, hike-in campsites are now available.
  • The World Birding Center Headquarters will be located in the park, quite fitting since Bentsen is such an amazing birding hotspot!
  • Through a partnership with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, formerly inaccessible federal land adjacent to the park will be incorporated, more than doubling the acreage of the park!
NOTE to RV and car campers ... (I didn't even know this until I stubled across the news item from April 2003 on TPWD's website):
The park no longer offers RV or developed camping facilities.
