Hiking boots

Ok so this summer I got a new pair of merrel chamelion gore-tex Mids with a vibram sole.

These are without a doubt the most comfortable hiking boots I have ever owned and have excellent traction when dry.

That said, as soon as the sole gets the slightest bit wet, they get as slippery as a greased pig. This strikes me as rather odd since they are WATERPROOF! I mean if I were to step on a wet rock or step in some water and then on a rock my foot would go sliding all over.

Has anyone else had this problem with the vibram soles? Is there any way to fix the problem? I love these boots and wear them as my every day shoe, but I am going to sprain an ankle or worse.
