Yes!
I guess a little more info will help
I was born in England and spent some time in Elliot Lake Ontario as a kid.
I grew up in Massachusetts and moved to Texas when I was 19 years old. About 1978 if my math is right.
I thought it would be temporary but found I liked the freedom and spirit of the locals. I think it has been watered down a lot since then but is better than many states still?
I hike a lot and never have a problem with solitude. Especially if you can pull midweek hikes. The weather can be warm but Texas is a large state and many variations of landscape and weather can be had.
I live in the Piney woods of East Texas where we see woldflowers and dogwoods in the spring and colorful foliage in the fall....(not New England but still pretty)
I love to hike the desert areas of Big Bend or may take a cooler summer hike in the Chisos (also in Big Bend). The rivers of west Texas are cool and clear and run for miles.
I live on a spring fed lake that is great swimming all summer.
Keep an open mind and you will find Texas to be a fine place to live.
We have our problems but they are small as compared to many areas.
