McKinney Falls gets my nod also. It is close to town, and still gives you the outdoors feeling. Plenty of wildlife and I'm not talking humans. Bastrop State park is just down the road. It will give you the east Texas feel with the pine trees and yaupons. Both are close and tent camper friendly.
