Question What in the world was that?

Need help identifying a snake I saw over the weekend.

While driving on a back road near Giddings, Texas I came across a snake sunning itself. I didn't know what type of snake it was and am very curious to see if anyone can figure it out:

The snake was about 4 - 4.5 feet long. The head was not distinctly triangular - just regular. The coloring on the snake was a brilliant black. Down its length where perfectly shaped diamonds that consisted of four squares each. The diamonds were a brilliant yellow. There was about 1/2" - 1" between each diamond, so they didn't touch. There was no rattle at the end of the tail. It never even moved as my truck went by and even after I stopped didn't seem at all interested at moving out of the way.

I've not found a darned thing that has help ID this snake. SO - I'm hoping that one of y'all might know.

Thanks,
Brenda
