Re: "Used" Road Bikes
I wonder how many folks ride the MS150 and have never really trained for the event? The folks I know who've done it trained for it with successively longer road rides. Anyone who gets up to riding 100+ miles is unlikely to sell their bike after finishing the MS150, except perhaps to upgrade to a newer, lighter model... but I'm sure there are a lot of drop out at various stages through the race and vow, "Never, ever, again!"
Justin's been surprising me as after we bought my new car (the beloved hybrid I can't stop talking about), he bought a nice Felt road bike and has been riding successively longer road rides. His longest thus far was this past Sunday morning -- 30 miles round-trip. I don't have the guts/will for that kind of riding -- stick me on a trail on my mountain bike and I'm happy, though no ace mountain biker of any sort.
I wonder what police departments and universities with bike patrol officers do when the bikes are retired... and if they're in any shape to be "adopted" when that happens, or if they're pretty much just parts at that point? Just a thought.
