Re: Fishing at Calaveras Lake

Calaveras lake has tons of fish. The most fun are the Reds. Yes there are Bass, and Crappie, and cats, but those Reds, when they school up during the warm weather, doing laps around the edges of the lake....MAN, when they come thru it's awesome. One rod will bend over in the holder ( on the bank), and then they all go down, it's a feeding friendzie. remember, your limit per day is only 3, don't be greedy. Besides, are you REALLY gonna eat ALL that fish? Take a picture, it lasts longer.

Braunig is a smaller version of Calaveras with less shade. It is easier to get to from the interstate. (I-37 S.)

I've never had much luck at Canyon. Guess you need a boat for the Bass there.

Now, in the winter, they stock rainbow trout at the base of the dam at Canyon. When you're desperate to fish in the winter, they may be small but it is still catching.
