Re: Fishing in Austin?

Texas State Parks have extended the Family Fishing Celebration. Bring your kids and fish free in many state parks in Texas. Learn how or teach others to fish. Freshwater and salt water fishing, urban or rural fishing, teach or be taught ...

State park Family Fishing Celebration in Texas is going on until 8/31/2006!

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is waiving fishing license requirements for families as part of the Family Fishing Celebration. There will also be events throughout the year to add to the excitement -- from kidsafe fishing derbies to Learn to Fish seminars. Some parks will be providing loaner equipment and bait: just call ahead to ask.

FYI - beware of eating the fish from Town Lake and directly below Austin on the Colorado River. Same with some creeks (like Bull Creek) in Austin. Lake Austin has public access.

Have a great time!
