Howdy!

Do not know about any areas but Matagorda Bay. You will need to check on hurricane damage, Lousiana and Texas upper coast were hit hard by Rita.

Matagorda Bay Nature Park would be a great place to camp. I have not been there yet. I am waiting for the RV park to open this summer. The entire area is beautiful and demonstrates the importance of bays, estuaries and wetlands.

Matagorda Island Wildlife Management Area (formerly Matagorda Island State Park) would also be extremely nice at that time of year. You would have to arrange transportation from and pack everything in but it is free.

Another island, off Port Aransas is San Jose Island. You would have to pack in, but it is a beautiful island. I think you can catch an airboat from Goose Island State Park. I know you can get a ride out from Port Aransas.

Here is a cool map site for the Texas coast.

Wow, I am getting excited about your trip. Guess I will do some more research and write a blog post.

Thanks!
