Oops. I guess I posted before I finished. I have been to both places; and yes, I would stay at Caprock Canyon State Park versus Palo Duro State Park. I do not believe Palo Duro SP has any RV sites at all. If you have a big rig, you might have problems in the campground.

Caprock Canyon SP is about 100 miles from Palo Duro SP. There is a wonderful trailway for biking, buffalo and miles and miles of the most wonderful red canyonlands ...

Back to your question ...

There is an RV park not far from the Palo Duro SP. If you do not mind staying right in Amarillo, you may want to splurge.

We stayed for free in Dumas, Texas, which is 45 miles north of Amarillo.
