There are a few places to fish from the bank in this area. If you want to do some trout fishing in the winter on the Guadalupe, Blanco, or Beuscher St. Park, or Kerrville check out the State of Texas P&W website and look for the Trout Stocking schedule. They usually trout in those areas during Jan and Feb.

Otherwise, during the spring check out the Blanco river around the dams and in the creeks (Blanco River State Park). In 2005 you do not need a fishing license to fish in the state parks. Also, in Austin, you can fish Town Lake, there are many places to access the banks. You can even rent a canoe at Zilker park and take a cooler. I've done this a couple of times and it is great wildlife viewing right in downtown!

Below Longhorn Dam is a good spot too.
